Gillingham Fellowship Gets a Boost and the 2024 Recipients are the first to benefit

Feb 14, 2024Announcement

The Pan-American Association of Ophthalmology is thrilled to announce a significant increase to our Gillingham Fellowship Program, generously supported by the Retina Research Foundation (RRF). In a landmark commitment to advancing ophthalmic education and research, the RRF has doubled the annual scholarship amount from $10,000 to an impressive $20,000.

Initiated in 1993 by Dr. Alice R. McPherson, President of the RRF, through the legacy of W.J. Gillingham, the fellowship aims to nurture the next generation of ophthalmic leaders. Annually, up to two deserving Latin American scholars who have secured a position in a training program in the United States or Canada, are awarded $20,000 each. Check out the requirements for candidacy.

Our heartfelt gratitude extends to the Retina Research Foundation for their support and shared commitment to fostering educational and training opportunities for young ophthalmologists. This collaboration has empowered 60 ophthalmologists with Gillingham fellowships over the last 30 years.

The Gillingham Pan-American Fellowships are offered annually to qualified Latin American candidates who have been accepted into an accredited training program in the United States or Canada. The 2024 Gillingham Fellows are:
