2023 Gradle Lecture

The Gradle Lecture was established in 1948 to honor Dr. Harry S. Gradle.  The lecturer exemplifies excellence and promotes best practice in education, positive international  relationships between the training programs and the community, and has been an advocate and leader in the field of Ophthalmology.  The selected lecturer presents their paper during the PAAO biennial congresses.

2023 American Journal of Ophthalmology (AJO) Lecture

The AJO Lecture is one of the named lectures that are traditional at PAAO congresses. Dr. Frank Newell, Editor of the AJO, worked with the PAAO Executive Board to establish the AJO Lecture and Dr. Benjamin Boyd was the PAAO Executive Director at that time. The AJO Editorial Board selects the lecturers and presents the lecturers with an AJO plaque. The first AJO Lecture was presented in 1971.

2023 Moacyr E. Alvaro Pan-American Lecture

The Pan-American Lecture was established in 1995 and is traditionally presented by the most recent Past President of the Pan-American Association of Ophthalmology.  In 2006 it was changed to be the Moacyr E. Alvaro Pan-American Lecture to honor Dr. Alvaro as one of the founders of the PAAO in 1939.
