Dr. Eduardo Arenas (1938-2023)
On Sunday, September 10, 2023, another giant left us. Eduardo Arenas (Colombia) left his mark on the world through his practice, the fellows he trained, meetings he contributed to, and friends he made. He will be missed.
Message from the PAOF Chair
We are very proud to announce the continuation and success of our Pan-American initiative on bringing together PAAO Young Ophthalmologists (PAAO-YO) in all the 26 affiliated national societies. Organizing this vital activity is the PAAO-YO Committee that is co-chaired by Eduardo Viteri Jr MD (Ecuador) and Lina Cernichiaro MD (Mexico). It is a very active group of young ophthalmologists and we have gathered PAAO-YO representation/delegates from all our national affiliated societies.
Ophthalmology Basic Sciences Course 2024
The Guillermo Picó Santiago Basic Course of Ophthalmology 2024 will be in person. The course is sponsored by the Pan-American Association of Ophthalmology and the University of Puerto Rico.
Dr. Marcelino Rio Torres (1944-2023)
On August 13, 2023, Dr. Marcelino Rio Torres passed away. For 27 years, he served as the esteemed director of the "Ramón Pando Ferrer" Cuban Institute of Ophthalmology, leaving an indelible mark on the field of medicine and touching the lives of countless individuals.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Francisco Contreras Campos. On July 23, 2023, Dr. Contreras passed away at home surrounded by family. He was an admired educator and true gentleman.
