PAAO President’s Message

July 2021

Dear Friends & Colleagues,

“Patient care, teaching and research should always be united. Ideally, these three components of the academic medical mission should move always hand in hand.”

– William Osler

I am very pleased to share with you, the success of our recently held PARD conference. As you all know PARD 2021 took place over two days, virtually, on July 10 (anterior segment) and July 17 (posterior segment). It was a great success, with exceptional keynote lectures and excellent presentations from participants around the world. We had a great record of attendance and participation.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank our keynote speakers, Dr. Anthony Aldave & Dr. Paul Chan who both delivered innovative and interesting lectures. We are also very thankful to our chairs, Dr. Lihteh Wu & Dr. Arturo Ramirez Miranda, as well as to our moderators; Erick Hernandez Bogantes, Julio Hernandez Camarena, Gerardo Graue Moreno, Claudia Acosta, Francisco J. Rodriguez and Jose A. Roca. I would also like to thank everyone who participated in the meeting, by presenting and by attending. It is thanks to every single person in attendance on those two days, who made this the great success that it was.

PARD is such an important event as it gives our young ophthalmologists, researchers, residents, and medical students the opportunity to present their work and to engage with their fellow colleagues in a friendly environment. This research day stimulates national and international collaborations, ongoing discussions and brainstorming on new research projects. The PAAO is proud to organize and encourage this research day.

It was an absolute pleasure to see all of you and to hear your excellent presentations. It was clear to me, during these two days, that all our presenters are dedicated and passionate researchers, striving to better serve our patients. Once again, great work to everyone and I look forward to seeing you all at the next meeting.

Stay safe and well.

With best wishes,
Miguel N. Burnier Jr., MD, MSc, PhD, FRCSC
