PAAO President’s Message

June 2020

Dear Friends & Colleagues,

The secret of change is to focus your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new.
– Socrates

I do hope that you are all well, safe and healthy with your family and friends. The pandemic is a huge concern and in some regions of the world it seems to be still out of control. We need to be vigilant and follow a scientific approach in order to win this battle.

The world has changed and the new reality will certainly be different than what our lives used to be. In all aspects of ophthalmology – clinical practice, teaching and research, the PAAO has a strong strategy to face the new challenges ahead of us.

First, we brought the PAAO Virtual International Symposium with its very international and exceptional program. Our last webinar – on retinal diseases – was yesterday, June 29. Your participation has made the PAAO-VIS with its nine webinars a huge success.

Please be connected with the PAAO for the next initiatives which are coming soon.

Finally, as you all know by now, our PAAO Congress will be held in Buenos Aires, April 13-16, 2022. This decision to change our main Congress from 2021 to April 2022 was a difficult one. As a tradition the PAAO Congress are always on a odd year and at this time will be in a even year. Let’s get together in Buenos Aires and celebrate Ophthalmology, with the latest in science and innovation. Let’s – we all hope – celebrate, in person, our long standing friendships and certainly make new ones.

Please be safe,

Miguel N. Burnier Jr. MD MSc PhD
PAAO, President
