PAAO President’s Message

December 2022

Paulo E.C. Dantas, MD PhD
PAAO President, 2022-2025

Dear Pan-American friends,

And another year has passed…

A year with a mix of distrust, fear and hope.

Distrust and fear that the nightmare of Covid-19 has not passed and that we are still at risk of hearing news of the loss of relatives and friends to this curse of the 21st century.

Hope in having overcome the worst phase of this disease and with the certainty that the science of prevention, vaccines and scientific knowledge have brought us to the end of another year, alive and with life plans for a better year, together with our dearest ones.

If you ask me if I’m going to celebrate the end of the year with luxury, gifts and a party with lots of food and drink, I’ll say no.

I will celebrate this festive period of spiritual renewal, together with my family, that is the greatest blessing that all of us have, thinking about the privilege I was given to be with them.

I fervently wish that all Pan-American friends have a blessed Christmas with your loved ones and that 2023 bring us health, success, peace, hope and faith.

See you in Buenos Aires for our first post-pandemic in-person Pan American congress. From March 17 to 20, 2023, at the La Rural convention center, Buenos Aires will be the Pan-American capital of ophthalmology.

Until then!
