PAAO President’s Message

November 2019

Dear Friends & Colleagues,

“With members in more than 35 countries, the PAAO provides a forum for professionals from all over the world to gather and focus on ways to standardize and improve ophthalmic knowledge and skills for the improvement of patient care.”

– PAAO Mission Statement

I borrowed the paragraph above from the PAAO’s mission statement regarding our desire to provide a forum and to encourage exchange among ophthalmologists from different countries to improve patient care and to promote scientific debate. We are very far along in the organization of the PAAO 2021 Congress in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Last week, I had the opportunity to visit La Rural which is the venue for the meeting and to meet with the Argentinean Organizing Committee. What great work has been done so far!

The venue is excellent and the plans for the different scientific lectures have been confirmed. La Rural offers a very international type of setting while at the same time “es muy Argentina.” It represents the perfect combination to house a spectacular congress.

The umbrella coordinators and their respective committees are working very hard and the scientific program is going to be second to none. An important aspect of the 2021 PAAO Congress is the participation of the young ophthalmologists through the PAAO-YO and the Argentinean young ophthalmologist group. We hope that PAAO-YO will congregate into the Congress not only scientific lectures but provide an even stronger network among the young members of the PAAO.

As you can see my words to you this month is to show my enthusiasm and to thank the excellent work that has been done by the PAAO Executive Committee, the Umbrella Coordinators and the Argentinean Organizing Committee, chaired by Pablo Daponte. I am certain that we will have an unforgettable 2021 PAAO Congress in Buenos Aires – Save the Date and I will see you all there!
