OCT Angiography
This course will provide tools for understanding the basic principles of OCT Angiography technology and its interpretation.
Spanish
CONTEXT
In a short time, OCT Angiography, an innovative imaging process, has become an essential visualization technique of the retinal vasculature and optic nerve. As its use has spread and become routine in clinical practice, it has modified the understanding of pathologies. We use it to monitor diseases and their response to treatment. OCT angiography has significantly changed clinical diagnostic and therapeutic possibilities. This has increased the need for ophthalmologists to understand its basic principles and clinical applications.
THE DETAILS
Intended for: ophthalmologists, ophthalmologists in training imaging technicians and, optometrists (from countries where optometry is recognized)
Duration: Approximately 2-3 hours a week for 6 weeks (depending on previous knowledge)
Certificate: 12 hours of PAAO Continuing Medical Education on completion
OBJECTIVES
- At the end of the course the participants will be able to:
Describe the basic principles of OCT - Angiography technology.
- Explain its usefulness in the evaluation of retinal-choroidal and optic nerve pathologies
- Understand its scope and limitations.
- Compare them with other methods of angiographic visualization.
- Apply what you have learned in your clinical practice.
PROGRAM
BASIC PRINCIPLES
- Principles of OCT-A technology
- Microanatomy of normal retinal vasculature
- Artifacts and role of segmentation in the
interpretation of OCT-A - How to Optimize Image Acquisition: Tips and Tricks Jorge I.
- Comparison between different OCT-A analysis systems
- OCT-A: Quantitative analysis
CLINICAL APPLICATIONS

- Analyzing and reporting the results
of an OCT-A
COURSE MATERIALS
- Study guides that facilitate the student’s learning process.
- Audiovisual lectures prepared by the teaching team on each topic. These will be available for online reading and in a save/print version.
- Reading material, available in Spanish and/or English in pdf format.
- Concept maps, synoptic charts, tables, and memory aids
LEARNING ACTIVITIES
Application activities are used throughout the course consisting of:
- Multiple-choice questions
- Open-ended, self-corrected questions with checklists
- Question and answer forums
Each module will have a final exam that must be passed to move on to the next module. The number of attempts is unlimited, but must be passed to move on to the next module.
The activities will promote the exchange and use of students’ knowledge and experiences and facilitate applying new learning to professional practice.
The teachers in charge of the course will accompany, guide, and encourage the learning process in the individual instances and the collective learning interactions.
