Dr. Juan Carlos Abad (1964-2022)

On behalf of PAAO, we join the ophthalmic community at this time of extreme pain and sorrow for the sudden loss of our esteemed Dr. Juan Carlos Abad. He performed his duties as president of PanCornea Society with great mastery, always with great commitment and dedication. He will always be remembered for what a great eye doctor and leader he was. Our sincere condolences to the family. May he Rest In Peace.

With deep sorrow, the Pan-American Cornea Society (PanCornea) announced the death of its president, Dr. Juan Carlos Abad, which occurred on Friday, September 2, in Medellín, Colombia.

“He was a great cornea professional, an excellent person and a dear friend to all of us. Today is a moment of enormous pain for his family and for all of us who had the privilege of sharing a part of his life.” “Our society will carry out a humble virtual tribute to Dr. Juan Carlos Abad to bid him farewell and honor his memory thanks to the kindness of the Pan-American Association of Ophthalmology (PAAO), through its e-learning platform, led by Dr. Eduardo Viteri”, commented Dr. Scorsetti. For his part, Dr. Victor Pérez expressed the feelings of the Board and the members of PanCornea with these farewell words: “Thanks to Dr. Juan Carlos Abad, our great president, for your great leadership, education and friendship.
