Message from the PAOF Chair

Dear Colleagues:
Big challenges demand great leadership. During this extended difficult time of COVID-19, the Pan-American has shown great leadership in seeking the positive by promoting different educational activities via Campus PAAO and promoting networking opportunities among the young ophthalmologists in the Americas, Spain and Portugal.
Endurance is a vital attribute for all of us to deal with the challenges of this pandemic. Whether it is at the individual level or at the organizational level, we have to reach to the inner sources of endurance to continue forward. The Pan-American has been capable of dealing with these challenges, thanks to the amazing support of its members.
As an organization, we reflect on what our members are and what shining examples we have seen. Over and over, we have seen such generosity of time, effort and donations. I think this is one of the greatest strengths of our organization when I see the profound generosity and resources that have come forward during this most difficult time.
These times are bringing out the best in ourselves. No man is an island, and this has never been more true than when our global community is being tested to its limits. We still have a ways to go but I am confident that we will successfully come through this pandemic as long as we stay positive and collectively help and support each other.
I invite you to continue supporting the Pan-American mission of continuing education, prevention of blindness and cultural exchange any way you can. No effort is too small. Please contact me at [email protected] if you have any questions or if you would like to volunteer in any way.
Sincerely,
Jorge E. Valdez MD PhD
President, Pan-American Ophthalmological Foundation (PAOF)
