Hemos creado un grupo de estudio sobre el pterigión encabezado por nuestro mentor Paulo Dantas y queremos rendirle homenaje.

Quisimos honrarlo primero como individuo porque su carácter, buena voluntad, paciencia y educación nos sirven de ejemplo a todos y por ser un amigo a todas horas.

Además, nos gustaría honrarlo como oftalmólogo por su dedicación a los pacientes y sus vastos conocimientos, que sirvieron de ejemplo.

Por último, nos gustaría honrar principalmente al maestro y mentor. Siempre presente en nuestra formación, discutiendo casos y enseñando técnicas quirúrgicas en detalle, sin prisas, con el objetivo de mejorar a todos sus alumnos, elevando continuamente el nivel de la oftalmología y contribuyendo inmensamente. Para completar nuestro homenaje, debemos alabar su faceta de mentor, animando a sus colegas de forma altruista. Fue el fundador del grupo de pterigión PAC, siempre presente en la creación de nuestros cursos, estudios y otros, sin pretender la promoción.
Queremos agradecerle especialmente por abrir siempre las puertas y mostrar nuevos caminos a seguir.

Los profesores son como faros para los barcos. Están ahí para facilitar la navegación, aportando seguridad e iluminación en el camino.
Durante muchos años, el profesor Paulo Elias Correa Dantas ha sido el faro para los residentes y becarios de los cursos que forman oftalmólogos y especialistas en Córnea y Enfermedades Externas.
Sus enseñanzas trascienden la docencia médica: el respeto, la honestidad, la paciencia, la integridad hacen de él un mentor extraordinario. Nos inspira con su didáctica, su perseverancia y su irreverencia. Es un motivador incansable. Siempre con una nueva idea y una nueva propuesta.
Y con el paso del tiempo, los antiguos alumnos se convierten en amigos suyos. Agradecemos al Profesor por todas sus enseñanzas.

Professor Miguel Burnier Jr. has been my professor, mentor, role model, and friend even before I entered medical school. He was fundamental during my postgraduate studies since he was the reason why I chose ocular oncology as my area of academic research. More than 50 colleagues from Brazil and other parts of the world are as lucky as I am for having Professor Burnier as their PhD advisor and as their friend; hundreds more have learned from him at his laboratory. It is truly a pleasure for me to donate to the Foundation of the Pan-American Association of Ophthalmology in honor of Professor Burnier.,
