Created 20 years ago by two first-class Pan-American researchers, Dr. Nicolas Bazan (USA) and Dr. Rubens Belfort Jr. (Brazil), Pan-American Research Day became a momentous event that brings together researchers from across the Americas to share their work, collaborate, and promote scientific advancements in the region.

The Pan-American Association of Ophthalmology (PAAO) is proud to serve as a hub for ophthalmologists in the Americas, promoting the advancement of ophthalmology and visual sciences, and advocating for eye health at the regional and international levels.

Dr. Alice R. McPherson (1926-2023)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of an icon. On January 16, 2022, Dr. Alice R. McPherson passed away after a short time in hospice care. She was a pioneer, a humanitarian, an educator and a philanthropist, in ophthalmology, in her field of retina, and in the Pan-American. She will be missed.

And another year has passed...
A year with a mix of distrust, fear and hope. Distrust and fear that the nightmare of Covid-19 has not passed. Hope in having overcome the worst phase of this disease and with the certainty that the science of prevention, vaccines and scientific knowledge have brought us to the end of another year, alive and with life plans for a better year, together with our dearest ones.
